Prior to the high school baseball season many observers felt this was the year that Wausau West would dethrone Stevens Point in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. On paper the Warriors were loaded…a veteran crew that was deep in pitching and could hit the hell out of the ball. Yes, they didn't have Paul Weise, a top-notch catcher out with a football injury, but they had some guys who could fill in there and do the job. Of course pre-season predictions don't mean a thing. You have to earn it on the field and the Warriors have done just that. They clinched the Wisconsin Valley title with a 3-1 win over Marshfield last night. Congrats to coach Ryan Whalen and his staff as they head into the WIAA Tournament. With a pitching rotation led by Logan Grunenwald, Chandler Fochs, Grant Hill and Payton Nelson they are built to handle a tournament even in this new pitch count era. The lineup rakes led by Nelson in the leadoff spot. The Warriors drew a #2 seed in the regionals and a first round bye next week. They will face the winner of BayPort-Pulaski game next Thursday at Wausau West. If they can make it to the sectionals it would be a chance for sweet redemption after letting a sectional game slip away last year they would have to eventually beat #1 seed Green Bay Preble who is unbeaten this season. Not easy…but winning a championship usually isn't …and you wouldnt want it any other way.
The Badger football team will open up the season on a Friday night. ESPN will televise the game against Utah State at 8pm on Friday September 1st. Too bad the Big Ten has to bow down for the tv money and infringe on high school football's night. It will be interesting to see what the ratings are for that game
A double OT Game 7 last night sends the Pittsburgh Penguins back to the Stanley Cup Finals. Chris Kunitz had the game winner
So as we head into June the two winter sports will start their Finals. Pittsburgh vs Nashville in hockey and Cleveland vs Golden State in hoops
The Milwaukee Brewers have placed Ryan Braun back on the DL withg a calf muscle problem. No word on who will take that spot on the roster. The Brewers will get Junior Guerra back from the DL tonight and he will start against the Diamondbacks.
Remember please…don't wish people a “happy” Memorial Day weekend. That's not what this is about. Make a visit to your local cemetery part of your long weekend and pause to remember those that paid the ultimate price in defense of our country.
Elections have consequences….Trump shows his boorish ways at the NATO summit shoving heads of state aside so he could be in front for the pictures and again shows he doesnt understand how NATO is funded…..Jared Kushner is now part of the FBI probe into the Flynn and Manafort cases. His dealings with questionable Russian banks are the issue…..Joint Chiefs Chairman nominee Joseph Dunford told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that Russia poses the greatest security threat to the United States. Wouldn't it help if the Commander in Chief would understand that too?….
Songs Of The Day- Happy Birthday to Stevie Nicks who turns 69.
Landslide-Stevie Nicks (2007) this version was recorded with an orchestra at the Soundstage Sessions in 2007 which was released as a live Lp. Just a beautiful song.
