Did you read the interview with Aaron Rodgers in ESPN Magazine? Some interesting comments particularly about Colin Kaepernick. It's pretty obvious at this point that Kaepernick is being black-balled by the league and I would imagine that most Packer fans are ok with that. Rodgers came out and said he believes that Kaepernick is good enough be on a roster somewhere. He also says that the only reason Kaepernick isn't on an NFL team is because of his anthem protests and that it would be “ignorant” to think otherwise. He also says he will not participate in the protests but describes them as “peaceful and respectful” and believes positive things can come from them. I agree. Agree or disagree with Kaepernicks way of protesting what he sees as social injustice in the country. But don't try and sell me the bs that teams are not signing him because he's not good enough. And don't try to tell me that the protests are Un-American. The ability to speak our minds and question things we don't agree with are what the flag, the anthem, and our men & women in uniform represent. It's what makes us a great country. I've always been leery of blind patriotism. It's a dangerous path regardless of ideology as we are seeing more and more these days. Does that make me “Un-American”? I don't think so…you may disagree and thats ok. As long as that disagreement doesnt escalate to violence & racial intolerance. I stand for the anthem and place my hand over my heart. Its the way I was raised…but I will not wear blinders to the fact that there are other people who may not have had the same experience in this country that I have had…and that we can do better. We can always do better.
What a catch by Keon Broxton yesterday. Inserted as a defensive replacement in center field, Broxton took away a home run that would have given the Cardinals the lead and ended the game for a Brewers win. A loss would have been tough to swallow after leading 6-3 in the late innings and already having your eighth inning guy give up a two-run shot. Corey Knebel was one strike away from ending it when Randall Grichuk hit one to dead center that looked like trouble. Broxton timed his leap perfectly and held on as his glove hit the top of the fence for the win. It was an important win as the Cubs hammered the Pirates again. Milwaukee will start a four game series with the Washington Nationals tonight and start the day 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs in the Central Division and 3 games behind Colorado for the 2nd wildcard spot. BTW, you can hear tonights Brewers game on Foxsports RAdio AM1390 & FM 93.9…pre game at 6:35. WSAU will have the Packer game…Packer Gameday begins at 4pm.
Other Brewer notes…Jett Bandy begins a re-hab assignment with the Wisconsin TimberRattlers tonight…2 games there and then two games with the Colorado Springs SkySox. Andrew Susac is scheduled to re-join the Brewers on Friday when Setember call-ups begin giving the Brewers 4 catchers for the stretch run. Also Brandon Woodruff is coming back from AAA and will start Saturday. I would imagine we have seen the last of Matt Garza in a starting role.
Yesterday the 2017 Brewers became the first squad in team history to have 9 players with at least 10 home runs. Aguilar, Arcia, Braun, Broxton, Perez,Shaw,Thames & Villar. It seems Villar is starting to heat up with the bat…that would be a bonus during the pennant streetch since not many people thought we would get much of anything from him after his struggles for most of the season.
Song of the Day- just one Bonnie tune today as it seems You Tube has changed the way you can share videos overnight and I am unable to crack the code so far.
