I don’t know about you but we always seem to get half to 2/3rds through French baguettes and then they get so hard. We could throw the remaining bread out..but wait!! There’s a lot you can still do with it. Here’s my quick list…
)…Make French toast. Slice the baguette thin..dip in a mixture of eggs (3) salt, pepper, buttermilk, and cinnamon. Make French toast and then dip into a mixture of butter and Wisconsin maple syrup.
)…Make into croutons. Baguette bread that’s a little dried out is perfect for them for salads or to put on top of French onion soup. Chop up baguettes into little square croutons, toss with butter, a little olive oil, and garlic powder..bake on a cookie sheet and you’re all set.
)…Make bread crumbs. Just grate the baguette with a cheese grater and combine with grated parmesean cheese. Excellent on casseroles, shrimp scampi, chicken, salads, and in meatloaf.
)…bake with leftovers on top. Do you have leftover pizza, meatballs, ham, chicken in the fridge? Put a little bit of that on the remaining baguette slices and bake ‘em. Make for a great appetizer.
)…and if you’re just trying to make that baguette last a little longer..put it in a plastic bag to keep it from drying out.
