The Holidays are upon us so it's the time of year we reflect and should think about all that is important. We are weighed down everyday by negativity and bad news, hard decisions and backlash from customers, coworkers and kids.
Let's let go of all of that and be cheery and joyful this Holiday season and remember these 6 things.
- Family and friends are the most important people in your life. They will love and support you no matter what. Spend some time creating memories with those you love.
- Joy is easy to spread. Wish everyone you see a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays with a big smile.
- Kids are always watching. We tell our kids that they need to be on their best behavior during the holidays because Santa is watching. Adults should always be on their best behavior because their children are watching. The reality is this time of year can be stressful, but when you are dealing with that remember that little eyes are watching you all the time and be kind.
- It is the season for giving. There are so many causes and organizations that need help. This season find one that you feel good supporting. Maybe it's donating a new toy to Toys for Tots, donating food for the local food pantry or just dropping a little bit of money into the red kettle for the Salvation Army. No matter your choice just give a little this holiday season, it'll make you feel really good.
- “Sing loud for all to hear.” Okay maybe not all, but sing Christmas songs with your kids. Play Christmas songs and dance around the living room. Some of my favorite memories as a kid at Christmas were of my mom putting on her Bing Crosby Christmas record and us dancing around the house decorating the tree or baking Christmas cookies singing along as loud as we wanted.
- Love or leave. Sometimes family gatherings can be difficult. If that's the case and you find it hard to be loving toward someone then it's okay to leave. Maybe not leave the party, but maybe leave the room. Give yourself a break. It's so much better to walk away than to fight during the holidays. Speak in kind loving words, but you can't control another person's actions so don't play into it and enjoy your holiday regardless.
