We note the passing of actor Max Von Sydow. You may remember him in many films like Conan the Barbarian and Flash Gordon but it was more serious roles that stood out. He played chess against death in Ingmar Bergman's “The Seventh Seal. It was one of 11 films he made with the great Swedish director. He played Jesus Christ in “The Greatest Story Ever Told. He was the assassin Joubert in Three Days Of The Condor and the priest Father Merrin in The Exorcist. Later he appeared in Minority Report, Shutter Island and Star Wars:The Force Awakens. He also won a prime-time Emmy nomination for his role as the Three-Eyed Raven in Game Of Thrones. In all he appeared in more than 100 movies and tv shows in his long and distinguished career.
Also heard about the passing of former major leaguer Don Pavletich. He died last week. Maybe only hard core baseball card collectors from the 1960's will remember him. He was a Wisconsin native who grew up in West Allis and spent most of his 12 year career with the Reds as a backup catcher.
Thanks to noted baseball card connoisseur and pop culture maven Jeff Ash for the heads up.
