Even though John Bolton “borrowed” the line for the title of his tell-all memoir, the real room where it happened was inside Lin Manuel Miranda's head…when he read the Ron Chernow's exhaustive biography of Alexander Hamilton and decided that it would make a great musical. And not only would he populate the cast with actors of color, the music would be an amazing of amalgam of hip-hop and show-tunes, the staging would be spare but brilliant, and the final result would be a thing of wonder. If you have Disney-Plus you will get the first chance to see the movie version of the stage show featuring Miranda and the original cast on July 3rd. If you have never seen the show I will give you some tips to help you enjoy the experience. It helps to know the bones of Hamilton's story. We all know he was shot and killed by Aaron Burr…but how did he get to that point. If you haven't read Chernow's book ( and you should, it's a great read) at least read the Wikipedia version of the high notes of Hamilton's life, many of which form the plot of the show. Also, if you are not a connoisseur of hip-hop music, you should listen to the original soundtrack on You Tube. Some of the best lines get lost in the rapid fire delivery of the show's dialogue and if you have heard them before it will (in this instance) enhance your viewing experience. Viewing this movie will not be as good as seeing it performed live…but if you haven't seen it at all, here's your chance to see it done by the original cast including Miranda, Renee Elise Goldberry, Leslie Odom Jr, Christopher Jackson, Phillipa Soo and Daveed Diggs. I envy you seeing and hearing this for the first time.

I had a chance to watch the debut of the Perry Mason series on HBO and the 3rd season opener for Yellowstone yesterday. The Mason series is an origin story starring Matthew Rys(from The Americans) and it's dark. Not the Perry Mason that Raymond Burr brought to our screens in the 60's. Yellowstone is Kevin Costner's series on Paramount about modern day cattle ranching in Montana and the forces of society pressuring the old ways of life. It doesn't promise to get any easier for the Duttons this summer.
