STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission has named two finalists for the city’s next Chief of Police, including one current member of the city’s Police force.
Robert J Kussow, the current interim assistant Chief, will be considered for the job alongside Brent Plisch, who currently serves as the Assistant Chief for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department.
Kussow has spent his entire law enforcement career with the Stevens Point Police Department and has held various positions including School Resource Officer, Detective Lieutenant, and Sensitive Crimes Investigator. His resume also includes continuing education from the Leadership in Police Organizations program and he will be attending the Wisconsin Command College this fall.
Kussow says he intends to finish his career with the SPPD.
Plisch is a Marshfield native who has also served in various roles with the UW Madison PD. Prior to working in law enforcement, he served his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom in the US Army’s 4th Infantry Division. He also holds degrees from Winona State University, Boston University, and Northwestern.
Both candidates will go through another round of interviews in February which will include conversations with both community and government leaders. A timeline for a final decision has not been announced.
The commission considered a total of 15 applicants for the position. Four finalists were selected, but two withdrew their applications.
