WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Fire Department is investigating an early-morning house fire on the city’s east side.
Crews were called to the 1000 block of Kickbush St at 5 AM for a chimney fire. Crews say that later spread into a structure fire, according to WAOW TV.
The family and pets that were inside the home did manage to get out safely.
According to Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg, the home has historical significance to the city. Wausau’s very first mayor, August Kickbush, lived in it.
In addition to the Wausau Fire Department, Wausau Police and South Area Fire Rescue were also called to the scene.
The fire did impact early-morning traffic for those dropping their children off at Hawthorne Hills Elementary.
