WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man was arrested on drug-related charges after two family members were found dead within hours of one another.
Roderick Schultz, 53, was in Marathon County Circut Court Monday for a probable cause hearing. Schultz is suspected of supplying heroin to his girlfriend and son, who were both found dead on March 13th from heroin overdoses.
Police say the first alleged victim, Schultz’s girlfriend, was found dead shortly after 7 a.m. on March 13 at a home on Lazy Branch Drive. A heroin overdose was immediately suspected. Hours later police were called again to a Wausau apartment for a second death, again a suspected fatal heroin overdose. This time, they found Schultz’s son in the 200 block of Lavinia Drive with a needle and cooker near his body.
Schultz, found through phone records, allegedly admitted his son had overdosed about five times previously but initially denied being at either victim’s house. His story allegedly changed several times according to police. He was later arrested after police found a fentanyl kit, a cooker, and other paraphernalia next to Schultz’s bed.
Schultz is currently being held on a $100,000 signature bond with an initial appearance set for April 5th. Schultz is expected to be charged with two counts of 1st-degree reckless homicide.
