MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A fire displaced several Merrill residents on Tuesday.
Crews were called to a 32-unit apartment building on Martin Street for flames coming out of the backside of the structure. Mutual aid was immediately requested from four other departments including Russell and Wausau.
Crews were able to contain the flames in a matter of hours. As the incident wore on, additional aid was requested from other departments including Hamburg and Antigo.
Tomahawk and Antigo EMS also assisted with some ambulance runs during the duration of the incident.
Merrill Police also responded to help residents get out of the building. No injuries were reported, and one pet was reunited with its owner.
Of the 32 units in the building, 24 received minimal or no damage in the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
