MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) – United Airlines is dropping service to Central Wisconsin Airport in early 2022.
Airport manager Brian Grefe says CWA will be off of United’s route map starting on January 4th. Their final flights will be a day earlier, January 3rd. Airport officials were told of the change last week.
United Airlines says it is eliminating service to eight regional airports that it served with its smaller CRJ-200 aircraft. United says a shortage of pilots and other workers is one of the reasons for the change. United has also planned to discontinue or cut back service to College Station, Texas, and Watertown, South Dakota.
United flew between CWA and O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, where customers would make connections to other flights. The service from CWA was operated by Air Wisconsin under the United Express brand name.
The airport is still served by American Airlines, which also flies between Mosinee and Chicago, and Delta, which offers flights to its hubs in Detroit and Minneapolis.
Managers at Central Wisconsin Airport say they hope to attract a low-cost carrier to begin service there.
