STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The man found guilty of shooting a co-worker when the two were working to remodel a Stevens Point hotel has been sentenced for three felony counts including attempted first-degree homicide and aggravated battery.
Cristhian Maradiaga-Martinez will serve 20 years in the Wisconsin prison system- 10 years in lockup and another 10 years on probation. Additionally, he is to maintain absolute sobriety, complete all treatment programs deemed necessary by the department of corrections, and have no contact with the victim.
He was given credit for nearly two years already served while awaiting trial and sentencing.
Maradiaga-Martinez faced up to 67 years in prison on the charges after he was found guilty back in September. Charges stem from Maradiaga-Martinez shooting a victim three times, including once in the face, after the victim said they had been contacted by authorities in Florida regarding his involvement in an attempted homicide case there.
Witnesses say Maradiaga-Martinez then jumped on the victim and started to strangle him, and didn’t stop until police arrived. He also threatened to kill the other witnesses, who were also part of the crew remodeling the hotel, if they did not leave the room.
