RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR ) – If you live in the Rhinelander area, there’s a good chance your home is partially powered by solar energy.
Hodag Solar Park is now operational.
Construction on the solar field started last summer. It’s 21,000 solar panels on a 50-acre field just south of Rhinelander in the Town of Crescent.
One Energy built the solar park that is now operated by Wisconsin Public Service.
It’s WPS’s third solar field. Matt Cullen is a WPS spokesman. “What we’ve seen is that those facilities have been able to reliably serve our customers, reliably generate energy and electricity for them throughout the year.”
Hodag Solar Park can generate up to 7.5 megawatts which is enough to power 2,000 homes.
Joel Knuston is chair of the Crescent Town Board. He’s been enthusiastic about the project from the start and has been closely follow the build. He says One Energy delivered on what they promised. “The renderings were spot on. The drainage was exactly what they said. No impacts to the wetlands. Everything was done as it should be.”
The Hodag Solar Park went into service last week.
