MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man will serve federal prison time for charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
David Boyle entered a guilty plea to the charge on Thursday in the US District Court for Western Wisconsin, and Judge James Peterson immediately sentenced him to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
According to the charges Boyle was receiving large amounts of cocaine and THC in packages delivered to a home in Marshfield through the US Postal Service. Officers were able to intercept one of the packages, which led them to obtain a warrant for the home.
Inside they found multiple guns and ammunition along with large amounts of both drugs and cash. Boyle admitted to selling the drugs, and also admitted to prior felony convictions and to purchasing the guns.
During the hearing, Boyle admitted that his drug sales were motivated by financial gain and he never thought he would get caught or end up in federal court because of it. Judge Peterson told Boyle that his previous charges should have been a wake-up call.
