STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Stevens Point-area businessman and Portage County Supervisor Scott Soik has announced his intentions to run for the 71st Assembly District seat in Madison.
“I know what it takes to run a successful business, run for office, and make meaningful change. It is time for me to bring that to Madison and deliver the dedicated service that the hardworking people of Portage County deserve,” said Soik in a press release.
Soik, a Military Veteran, says his focus would be on economics including a decrease in state spending and taking steps to prevent inflation.
The district includes most of Portage County including Stevens Point, Plover, and Whiting. It’s currently represented by Democrat Katrina Shankland and has been a Democrat stronghold since 1985.
Soik previously ran against Shankland in the 2020 election where he fell by 11 points.
