“The Mayan Secrets” by Clive Cussler and Thomas Perry is the 5th book of 13 in the Sam and Remi Fargo Adventures Series. In this book the Fargos are on a humanitarian mission to help people in Mexico after an earthquake. They stumble upon the remains of a man clutching a pot which contains a Mayan codex larger than any previously discovered book. This leads them on an adventure to protect the secrets within the codex before a wealthy woman can claim the codex and all it reveals for herself.
I’ve really come to wonder how Sam and Remi can trust anyone! They have come across some really devilish people pretending to be decent. They’ve had people that they thought they could trust betray them. Yet no matter how many times they’ve been stabbed in the back they always find new friends to help them.
I really enjoy following them on their adventures but I am going to take a little break from the series to read something else. Don’t get me wrong it’s not that I’m sick of them or tired of reading about the next crazy thing that these two get dragged into it’s just that I think I just need a “vacation” from treasure hunting and after a couple of stand alone stories I’ll jump back into the Fargo Adventure series with a new found appreciation.
If you are looking for a great adventure this is it. I like that each book picks up where it left off filling in a little of the break between books with what they were doing in the meantime. The adventures all have a different twist so it isn’t the same story over and over. Sam and Remi aren’t the ones always happening upon the treasure to start the adventure, they are often called in to assist someone who isn’t an adventurer.
Like all the other Sam and Remi Fargo Adventures I would give “The Mayan Secrets” a 4.5 out of 5.
