MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A 28-year-old from Wausau has been sentenced for distributing more than 50 grams of meth.
Lucas Ellwart will serve a six-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to the federal charge in US District Court for Western Wisconsin. Charges stem from two confidential informant buys from Ellawrt that occurred in 2021.
Ellwart was arrested in September of that same year after a high-speed chase during which he threw a bag containing 800 grams of the drug out the window of a car. Judge William Conley did credit him with helping officers locate those drugs, but said a lengthy sentence was warranted because of his history of drug-related offenses.
The 28-year-old is currently in state custody on meth-related charges. His federal sentence will run alongside the remainder of his state sentence, and upon release, he will serve extended supervision as well.
