It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. You’re at the park with your toddler they’re playing, you get distracted for just one second, and when you look back…your baby is gone!
In “The Game You Played” author, Anni Taylor, takes us into the unraveling world of Phoebe after her two year old, Tommy, goes missing. When it seems that the police are done looking for him, because they believe that he must have drown that day, Phoebe starts receiving cryptic messages from the kidnapper. As she starts trying to follow the clues to find her baby boy she appears crazier and crazier to the police, her friends, even her family.
Phoebe even starts believing she is losing her mind until she finds an unexpected ally.
“The Game You Played” by Anni Taylor is a good page turner. I found it to be engaging and I was invested in helping Phoebe solve this mystery. I did find some parts to be a bit predictable, but I was still often surprised. None of the characters are particularly likable, not even Phoebe. I think perhaps she is written in this way so you, the reader, might be able to suspect her. There were some plot holes that had me wondering how the editor missed these things. I don’t want to give you any spoilers so I won’t go into detail, but if someone has an impeccable sense of smell they would recognize the perfume lingering on their husband as their friend’s.
This was a good book, but not a great book. I would rate it a 3/5 stars. Not a complete waste of time, but not the best investment either.
