CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man who led police on a chase near Chippewa Falls has been given a withheld sentence and jail time after pleading no contest to a handful of charges related to the case.
Court records show Chad Myszka was given a nine-month jail sentence with Huber privileges, allowing him to leave jail to work or meet other obligations. He has also been ordered to pay nearly $100,000 in restitution and surcharges
His $15,000 cash bond will be used as a down payment on the restitution. The judge also ordered that the victim of the crash should be paid first before any insurance company.
A judge also handed him a withheld probation sentence. Additionally, his gun will be confiscated and turned over to his parents.
The 20-year-old led officers on a high-speed chase into Chippewa Falls which ended when he crashed into two vehicles, causing one person to be hospitalized with multiple broken bones. He then fled the scene.

Officers believed he was armed and dangerous, which prompted a shelter-in-place order for residents near the scene. It was later discovered that Myszka had stolen a semi from a Chippewa Falls parking lot and used it to return to Wausau. He turned himself in the next day.
