MEDFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A letter has been sent from Phillips-Medisize to the Department of Workforce Development on Tuesday, stating that the company has begun the process of making layoffs at their Medford location.
In the coming months, Phillips-Medisize says they will lay off 83 employees, with 46 receiving notices that their jobs will end as of August 7. They were likely informed earlier this week of the 60-day notice period.
The business announced in August 2022 that it would close the Medford location and move production to Phillips. Less than 25% of the workforce has since been affected.
According to a press release, current Medford employees will be eligible to apply for positions at Phillips-Medisize’s other Wisconsin offices in Eau Claire, Menomonie, New Richmond, and Hudson as well as at other Molex and Koch locations.
Approximately 50 years ago, in the early 1970s, Phillips-Medisize expanded from the Phillips area to Medford.
