WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau’s Police and Fire Commission will be busy over the next two weeks.
Two days of interviews have been scheduled for the city’s Police Chief position beginning Monday at 7:00 AM. Another set of interviews is scheduled for Tuesday, also at 7:00 AM.
The commission has as many as three candidates that they are looking at for the position. City HR Director James Henderson previously told WSAU News that they had about a dozen applicants, which they were able to trim to a list of four candidates for interviews. One of those candidates removed themselves from consideration.

Two days of Fire Chief interviews are also scheduled before the end of August. Those are slated for the 28th and 30th.
Both Ben Bliven and Bob Barteck announced plans to leave their positions earlier this summer; Barteck is retiring, while Bliven plans to take a job in the private sector. The decisions are not connected, and the timing is purely coincidental.
The city has also scheduled a special council meeting for August 28th at 6:00 PM. While no agenda has been posted for that meeting, it will likely involve a closed-session discussion on a proposed amendment to the development agreement for the Foundry on 3rd project. The agreement currently calls for the developer to break ground for the project by September, the amendment would delay that deadline by nine months.
The matter was to be considered by the council last week, but alders voted to table discussion to allow for a closed-session discussion with the city’s legal team.
