WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Day one of the sexual assault trial for a former Central Wisconsin substitute teacher has wrapped up.
Zachary Robins is facing two counts of sexual assault for inappropriate contact with someone under the age of 13. Investigators say he was working as a sub in a Wausau elementary school in 2019 when he touched two girls- one through a hole in the back of her top, and another on her backside.
Robins was arrested a few days later while working as a sub in a neighboring school.
Court records show the 12-person jury was seated just before noon, with opening statements beginning at 1:10 PM. At least five witnesses testified before court was adjourned at 3:00 PM.
All parties will reconvene on Wednesday at 8:30 AM. The trial is scheduled to last three days.
The case has been scheduled for trial a handful of times before, including once back in February. Those proceedings were postponed due to a winter storm.
