Happy FriYAY. It’s my favorite day of the week!! Not just because it’s the start of the weekend, but it’s new music Friday! As a music junkie, I openly explore new genres of music, new artists and will always give a song a chance. Let’s dive into some of today’s new releases on 10/20/23.
“One More Time…“, Blink-182. This is their ninth album and the return of Tom DeLonge after being gone for seven years. Travis Barker gets married to a Kardashian and somehow Blink-182 is now mainstream pop…I’m just so confused. I’ll still give it a listen though. Doesn’t Fall Out Boy mention Tom DeLonge in their, “We Didn’t start the Fire” remake?? I checked and yeah they do… Tom DeLonge and Aliens..? https://x.com/blink182/status/1715227160191840514?s=20
“Hackney Diamonds“, The Rolling Stones. This is their 26th album, and their first of new music in 18 years. 18 years…Not to be dramatic but that’s almost my whole lifetime. WOW. Sadly, it’s also their first album without their lifelong drummer, Charlie Watts, who passed in 2021. Charlie does appear on two songs though, “Mess It Up” and “Live by the Sword”. The iconic guests on the album with the Stones are Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder. Stevie and Gaga join them on, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” and you HAVE to check the song out. Gaga and Mick do a little scream off in it and I’m obsessed. https://x.com/gagadaily/status/1715334515755806905?s=20
“Christmas“, Cher. This is Cher’s 27th album. I think that’s the same age as her boyfriend lol. Her guests include Michael Bublé, Tyga, Cyndi Lauper, and Stevie Wonder. Chere and Tyga dropping a Christmas song together was not on my 2023 bingo card. Her Christmas stuff sounds just like you’d expect Christmas music from Cher to sound like. It’s basically “Believe,” but make it Christmas music.
“Lighthouse“, Duff McKagan. This is his third solo album. You know him as the bassist of Guns N’ Roses. His guests of course, include Slash, Iggy Pop, and Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell. More of a rock album than some others released today, but what can you expect when it’s Duff McKagen? I’ll be listening.
“Breath of Fresh Air“, Gucci Mane. It’s a double album that actually came out this past Tuesday. Lil Baby, J. Cole, Kodak Black, DaBaby, 21 Savage, Roddy Ricch, and Young Dolph are guests. I’m not gonna lie, rap isn’t my favorite genre, but like I said, I’ll give anything a listen. I like 21 Savage so I’m sure I’ll find something on here to vibe to.
Last one! It’s not an album, but my top pick of today’s new music releases. It’s a collaboration between two of the biggest names in music. The two queens of my life. Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus revisited Miley’s song “Wrecking Ball” and OMGGGGG is it good. If you didn’t know, Dolly is Miley’s godmother so they’ve always shared a special connection in life and music. Miley and Dolly have teamed up before on some projects and Miley has covered Dolly before, but I can’t say I’ve seen Dolly cover Miley. The song will be on Dolly’s album “Rockstar”, set to come out November 17th. Make sure to listen the end of the song, it has a little surprise. https://t.co/YnkTDBp6qz
