MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Central Wisconsin Airport Director Brian Grefe says his staff is ready for an influx of travelers as we approach the holidays.
He says the usual advice of arriving early, packing properly, and knowing what you can and can’t bring in a carry-on is still relevant. “Those answers are mostly on TSA.gov but it doesn’t hurt to check with your individual airline as well,” said Grefe.
Those flying through CWA on Thursdays and Sundays should also note that the airport will be busier due to the recently added Avelo Airlines flights to Orlando. “Not counting Avelo we have seen a five to six percent increase year over year on Delta and American. So add two extra flights on Thursdays and Sundays and that adds extra capacity.”
That extra capacity can mean longer lines at the TSA checkpoints and more holdups, so allow for extra time if you’re traveling on those days.
Grefe says one thing that is rarely packed properly is gravy, which needs to be frozen if it is brought in a carry-on bag.
Hunters should also note that they need to declare their firearms and check them with their airline before going through TSA. The gun must also be kept in a locked case. Those flying with ammunition need to pack it separately from their firearm.
TSA estimates call for 30 million passenger screenings between Friday, November 17th and Tuesday, November 28th. AA estimates that at least 1.1 million Wisconsin residents will travel at least 50 miles for the holiday.
