WAUSAU, WI (WSAU=WAOW) — From Grinch sightings to candy hand-outs, the holiday season is definitely upon us now.
Hundreds lined the streets of downtown Wausau for the city’s annual holiday parade Friday.
Many in attendance had been longtime regulars, but some were attempting to start a new tradition, like Dave Huss from Edgar and his coworkers, many of whom dressed up in festive hats and in a prime viewing spot for the parade.
“I think it’s just to build teamwork, camaraderie and kind of get into the Christmas spirit. First day of December, so we’ve got a parade, it’s kind of the kickoff to the Christmas season, so that’s the reason behind the hats and the festive attitude,” he said.
The festive attitude was present throughout, whether young or old.
“I love it! It’s so jolly and happy and I love it all,” said Amy Crowell of Mosinee, who added it was a cool sight to see children lining the streets and building traditions of their own.
“I just love that it brings the holidays together. It’s a really good kickoff into Christmas, and it’s just something fun for everybody to get out here and do,” Crowell said.
News 9 was also heavily represented at the parade, with multiple on-air personalities passing out cups and candy, and Brittany Slaughter and Jake Sennholz served as float judges this year.
