AUBURNDALE, WI (WSAU) — A 25-year-old Arpin man was killed in Tuesday’s crash on Highway 10 near Auburndale.
Sheriff’s officials say the man was driving a Toyota near the intersection with Day Road when he pulled into the passing lane to go around a semi. At that same time, a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lane approached the scene causing a head-on collision.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as Michael Baugh. He died at the scene. His passenger, 23-year-old Alissah Hardesty of Arpin, suffered minor injuries.
The wrong-way driver was identified as 70-year-old Elsie Punke. She was transported to Marshfield Medical Center and was immediately listed in critical condition. No update on her condition has been given.
The crash shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 10 for more than 4 hours on Tuesday. Officers are continuing to investigate and reconstruct the scene.
