WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Milwaukee Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger made a stop at Wausau’s Horace Mann Middle School on Tuesday afternoon as the organization continues their statewide “Frozen Racing Sausage” tour, which featured a live sausage race and a local teacher winning a custom Brewers jersey.
Schlesinger, who has been with the Brewers for more than two decades, was promoted to the President of Business Operations role back in January 2019 after spending the previous seven seasons as the team’s Chief Operating Officer. He oversees the organization’s business operations, including finance, human resources, information technology, legal, sponsorships, marketing, ticketing, business analytics, broadcasting, communications, stadium operations, and non-baseball special events.
During his conversation with WSAU, he says the Brewers have a lot of work to do in 2025 saying, “We’re defending the NL Central and other teams have gotten better. The Cubs have certainly improved but until someone takes the crown away from us we’re still defending NL Central champs and the season ended abruptly last year…we have some unfinished business…we wanna bring a World Series title to the state and with Pat Murphy (manager of the year), Matt Arnold (executive of the year), some great talent and great players…every season has it’s own twist and turns but we’re excited.”
When asked about losing Willy Adames to free agency and what the future at shortstop could look like, he says he likes the team’s young talent, “One of the things that we’ve done in the past is that we’ve brought the guys into camp and let them figure out what their comfortable with and what their capable of doing…there is always opportunities to add to the team through trades or free agency…I like our farm system, and our depth and I like what we have in camp but yeah you can’t replace Willy who had 32 home runs and provided great leadership…but he deserved to be rewarded and the Giants certainly rewarded him but with Joey Ortiz, Brice Turang and our talented outfielders I like our depth.”
Schlesinger also weighed in on how 22-year-old top prospect Jeferson Quero’s (torn labrum) rehab is going and if Brewers will get to see him play during Spring Training saying, “I think he should be fully recovered…people still forget he’s very young and he lost a whole year of performance because of that unfortunate injury but he’s incredibly talented and if he’s not one he’s our second best prospect so we’re not gonna rush him and we want him to develop. I hope to see him in Milwaukee in the future but we’re obviously pretty good at catcher right now with one of the best catchers in baseball in William Contreras.”
Quero is ranked as the 47th-best prospect in baseball and hit .262 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs for the Brewers Double-A Affiliate Biloxi Shuckers in 2023.
The Brewers will begin Spring Training action on Saturday, February 22nd when they face the Cincinnati Reds at 1:10 p.m. CST.
