Three weeks into the Vitality Program through Eleve MedSpa and Iโm feeling great.
This weekโs challenge, itโs my husbandโs birthday on Monday. We canโt celebrate a birthday without a cake can we? I reached out to my health coach, Katrina and she gave me some great advice and suggestions.
โHi Nikki!
First, I want to compliment you for wanting to stay on track even through a wonderful celebration! Iโm attaching a recipe for Keto Cheesecake โ the lesson with this recipe is to swap out regular flour for almond flour and to substitute sugar for monk fruit, allulose, or erythritol. In general, those swaps can be utilized in most recipes to make them just a little more blood-sugar friendly. Hereโs also a website link that looked intriguing for other ideas: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipes/1596/healthy-recipes/low-carb/desserts/
You can purchase โketo-friendlyโ ice creams from most any grocery store. Some popular brands Iโd recommend are Rebel or Keto Pint.
Another consideration for helping to lower or shorten blood sugar spikes is to:
- Always eat fiber, fats before eating carbs
- Eat dessert after your meal rather than on its own, say for an afternoon snack
- Move your body for 10+ minutes after having sweet treats (go for a walk, dance, do bodyweight air squats, etc.)
Ultimately, my best advice is to enjoy celebrating, however that looks to you. Keep the dessert portion small, and donโt let multiple servings spread over days. Make wise decisions in your other habits to balance โhaving your cake and eating it too.'โ
Having a health coach that is available to answer questions when you have them is invaluable. It really helps keep you on track and you have someone rooting for you throughout the journey.
