Hey Photographers..wanted to share a group that Iโm part of for staying on top of the Northern Lights. To photograph them I normally hear from other photogs in this group..who watch for northern lights waaaaay more than I do..northern lights geeks!! (And I mean that in the most complimentary way..Iโm glad you guys have a passion for this). So once the members start talking about spotting the northern lights..I go outside and try and take a picture of them in the city of Wausau. If Iโm getting actual horizon northern lights..just settling for a pic in the city with all the city light pollution isnโt good enoughโฆtrust me. So I jump in my car and head for the boondocks. Youโll get much, much better resolution pictures from outside the city lights. So maybe scope out where you can drive to and be safe outside your car while photographing them. The members in this group do a great job with where they are seeing the northern lights and camera settings..all that. The problem is photographing is very, very hit and miss..most of the time its a miss..and thatโs frustrating. The simple test shot out in my driveway tells me whether to get excited or not. If Northern Lights are your thing..and you want a fighting chance to get a picture of them..become part of this group..the โGreat Lakes Aurora Huntersโ on Facebook!
