TOWN OF ROCK, WI (WSAU-WDLB) — Human remains found in Wood County have been identified as a man missing since last summer.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Department confirms that the human remains found in the Township of Rock are that of Zachary Vasa. Vasa was last seen on June 13th, 2020. Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker tells WDLB Radio that the family has been notified. “We’re moving forward with the investigation now as it’s still an ongoing investigation. But that was one of the things we wanted to get taken care of rather quickly, just so we can move forward,”.

The remains were discovered in the area of Patton Drive and Fairhaven Avenue and announced to the public on March 11. Becker says the search for the rest of Vasa’s remains continues. “Obviously a very active [investigation] with these results. So there are still interviews taking place that our detectives and investigators are doing.
“So again a very active case right now that we’re working on. And this is just one of those things that we’re glad to have behind us, that we have this person identified that was missing since last June,”.
While Vasa’s death has not been ruled a homicide, Becker says that’s how they’re treating the investigation. “You know any type of death investigation, that’s how we treat it. That’s not saying that every death investigation is a homicide but that’s how we treat death investigations that we’re called to. So it’s still ongoing so I couldn’t really comment exactly what we’re doing with this investigation but it’s ongoing,”.
Vasa’s remains were found in the area of Fairhaven Avenue and Patton Drive, along with clothing and some personal items as well. 32-year-old Vasa was last seen visiting a Marshfield home on June 13th of last year. Vasa left the home and did not tell anyone where he was going.
