Blockbuster NBA trades can be like eclipses. Rare and dangerous. And to see a big trade by two teams in the same division, two months before the season starts makes it even more interesting. Disgruntled star Kyrie Irving was tired of playing second fiddle to Lebron James in Cleveland and demands a trade. A number of teams were interested but couldnt get a deal done. Boston decides they don't want to give a max contract to Isaiah Thomas and so puts together a package that sends the talented Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets #1 pick in 2018 to the Cavs for Irving. It would seem that the Cavs “won” the deal by getting quite a haul for one unhappy player who was going to leave after next year anyway. Boston will be happy as this gives them a very good starting lineup with which to go to battle this season. As one wag put it “this is Lebron saying I won with my guys and I can win with your guys too”. Oh and as writer Andreas Hale noted “pretty sure this is the first time that the first pick (Kyrie) was traded for the last pick (Isaiah) in the same draft (2011). Oh, and the Celtics and Cavaliers oipen up the season against each other too!

There is a new Kit-Kat flavor in Japan. Its Cough Drop flavored Kit-Kats which have throat lozenge powder mixed into the white chocolate layers. This is not Fake News…although it probably should be
The New England Patriots gave Trump a Super Bowl ring…I guess one more reason to dislike the Pats.
ESPN has pulled announcer Robert Lee from a broadcast of UVA football because of his name. Um, yeah…thats a bridge too far.
The far right is going after Pope Francis on social media for urging countries to offer aid to migrants and refugees.
Elections have consequences…American taxpayers paid for $117,489 worth of car rentals during Tiffany Trump's recent vacation in Italy….Did you watch the Trump speech last night? Is there any doubt in anyone's mind at this point that Trump is mentally unbalanced? When a President criticizes the media more than he criticizes neo-nazi's and radical islamist terrorists there is a serious problem. He mocked a war hero going through chemo for christ sake while praising a convicted racist former sheriff. He had better things to say about Kim Jung-Un than some sitting US Senators. Don Lemon put it best “This is who we elected President of the United States. A man who is so petty that he has to go after people he deems to be his enemy like an imaginary friend of a six year old. His speech was without thought, it was without reason, it was devoid of facts. It was devoid of reason. There was no gravitas, there was no sanity there. He was like a child blaming a sibling. He did it, I didn't do it. A man clearly wounded by the rational people who are abandoning him in droves meaning those business peopleand the people in Washington who are now questioning his fitness for office and whether he is stable. A man backed into a corner it seems by circumstances beyond his control and beyond his understanding”. But what is scarier than watching Trump rant, is the enraptured looks of some in the audience cheering him on. And what I know will be the glowing comments from the right wing squawk machine today. Including in the room I'm sitting in.
Quote of the Day…since Trump likes to quote Lincoln so much…”Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt”.
