The Green Bay Packers must be shaking their heads when looking at their schedule this fall. Even though the combined 2015 records of the opponents make it the “easiest” schedule of anyone in the league, the way it's laid out is somewhat bizarre. Lets start with the fact that the Pack will play it's first two regular season games on the road for the first time since 1924. Combined with playing the last two exhibition games on the road means the team will be away from Green Bay for an entire month . They also have only one home game before the bye week, three straight home games Oct 9-20 and three straight road games Nov 13 -28. And they will play on both Christmas Eve and News Years Day at home. They also have 5 primetime games including week 2 when they will help the Vikings open their new stadium on Sunday Night Football and back-to-back road weeks in late November on a Sunday and Monday night. It's a weird schedule and I'll bet that Coach Mike McCarthy is none too pleased considering his team is expected to be a Super Bowl favorite this season.
Craig Counsell is already facing a decision about what to do with Wily Peralta. The expected ace of the staff has struggled mightily three straight starts to begin the season and the question is now, how long do you keep running him out there? With the injury to Matt Garza, they don't have alot of options right now as Zach davies is expected to pick up those starts so you would expect that Peralta will still be out there every 3rd day hoping to figure it out. What fans really don't want is a repeat of last year where both Garza and Kyle Lohse were sent out start after start despite getting pounded.
It looks like some beautiful weather for outdoor high school sports or maybe some golf this weekend. Although in Stevens Point thousands of folks will be indoors and awake for much of the weekend. It's the annual Trivia contest run by WWSP, the student run radio station at UWSP. For 54 straight hours, beginning at 6pm tonight and running until midnight Sunday teams of folks will peruse the the cob-webby recesses of their minds to answer questions about movies, tv shows, commercials, music, sports and pop culture. It really is a phenomenom and you can follow along on the air and on-line if you are so inclined.
