A few years back I went go see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train..which makes it’s way through little towns..stops briefly..provides live music..gives out a check for local food pantries and head’s to the next town. I have to tell you…THIS is one of the great experiences of the holidays. It’s the chase to get to the little town..hang out with hundreds of locals from that town..and catch a glimpse of the most lit train I’ve ever seen.
It’s easy to photograph a train that’s not moving..I had already taken plenty of pictures of it parked. it normally only stays in each town for about 25 minutes..so you have to have your act together on how you want to capture it. It makes stops in places like Portage, Mauston, Tomah, LaCrosse and then over to towns in Minnesota and up to Canada. This year my quest was to catch it leaving town..when it’s moving. And whoa…it was zooming by the time I saw it this year…..
Here’s one of the shots I got from one of 3 cameras I used to try and get it before it left the edge of town. A great photography challenge..always a treat to see..I hope you put it on your bucket list to try and catch next year.
