MINOCQUA, WI (WSAU) — Officers say a report of a suspicious vehicle is what led to Wednesday’s manhunt and shelter-in-place order near Landing Bay Resort.
Officers in Minocqua say they received word of a suspicious vehicle, which they traced back to 32-year-old Cody Huebner. A background check turned up outstanding warrants for him from Shawano County.
Police tried to make contact with Huebner as he left the Save More parking lot, but he took off and led police on a chase south into Hazlehurst. Huebner crashed his vehicle and ran off into a wooded area, where he found another vehicle and took it.
A second chase began which reached speeds of 80 MPH on icy roads. Huebner eventually stopped the vehicle near Little Bearskin Lake and hid in the woods for nearly two hours, which is when officers advised residents to shelter in place because he was armed.

Huebner was arrested without incident and is being held in the Oneida County jail on a probation hold. Officers do anticipate bringing more charges against him from Wednesday’s incident.
