GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – With the Green Bay Packers’ special teams coordinator entering his second season, Rich Bisaccia continues to have a big impact on the team’s roster. The Packers’ most recent re-signing has joined the nearly all of their other free agent signings this off-season in having a large special teams impact.
The Packers are bringing back safety and special teams standout Dallin Leavitt for the 2023 season, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. After four years with Bisaccia’s Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, Leavitt signed a one-year contract with Green Bay as one of the coach’s hand-picked players last season. Leavitt’s new contract will most likely also be for one year, making him eligible for the veteran salary benefit against the salary cap.
Leavitt did not miss a game in his first season with the Packers, recording 13 tackles — seven solo and six assists. He appeared on special teams for a total of 308 snaps, accounting for nearly three-fourths of the team’s total plays in that phase.
With Leavitt’s return, the Packers have now signed five defensive backs this season, all of whom have made significant contributions on special teams in recent years. Leavitt joins fellow safety Rudy Ford and cornerbacks Keisean Nixon and Corey Ballentine in signing new one-year contracts with the Packers. In addition, the Packers signed former 49ers safety Tarvarius Moore to a one-year contract. Moore, like these other players, has spent the majority of his career on special teams.
