RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Rib Mountain residents will officially get a chance to sound off on whether they should become a village or remain a township.
According to a posting on the town’s website, the vote will be conducted on July 11th, marking the final step in a years-long process.
Administrator Gaylene Rhoden and other town leaders began working with a consultant to complete the paperwork for the move, which was filed last November. January brought a hearing with the Department of Administration to further state their case.
Speculation about incorporation has come up numerous times in the Village’s history. July’s vote will be the final step of a process that could put that to rest once and for all. Those in support of incorporation say it would be a way to lock the town’s borders to prevent communities like Rothschild or Wausau from taking over. Those opposed worry about what the move would mean for their property tax bill.
Details regarding the vote, including polling locations and hours, have not been published on the town’s website. Those questions are expected to be answered during an open house and informational session on the issue. that’s scheduled for 5 PM on Tuesday before a regular town board meeting.
