Happy FriYAY. It’s my favorite day of the week!! Not just because it’s the start of the weekend, but it’s new music Friday! Let’s dive into the new albums and songs that dropped today, 11/03/23.
“Equal Strain of all Parts”, Jimmy Buffett. I know you’re wondering how this is possible since we tragically lost Jimmy on September 1st,?? Well, he completed this before he passed and had plans to release it this year. His family, band and record label (he owns) decided that the world needs some positivity right now and blessed us. Jimmy always makes happy yacht rock music that makes me think of warmer places. This is his 32nd and final album.
“Golden”, Jungkook from BTS. This is his debut solo album. He scored big names as features on this album like his song with Latto, “Everyday”. He got Major Lazer and DJ Snake on some tracks and has this album features my current jam right now, “3D”, with Jack Harlow. For a debut album, I think JungKook is killing it with these features!
“Little Bit of Sun”, Semisonic. These are the guys who brought us “Closing Time”. In college, I ended my radio show every single day with that song so Semisonic will always have a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to check this album out! It’s their first album since 2001…. That was 22 years ago. Man has the music industry changed since they last dropped music. Now I’m even more excited to hear what they’ve came up with.
“Sugar Papi”, Marshmello. This is his fifth album and first that I know of featuring all of the songs in Spanish.
“The Show: The Encore”, Niall Horan. This is Niall’s extended version of his album, “The Show” and there are nine songs added to this extended version. One song on this extended version in particular that I LOVEEE is Niall covering a Zach Bryan song, Something in the Orange. It’s a great cover and this album is like a pop dream. His guests feature Lizzy McAlpine and John Legend on this one.
“Now And Then”, The Beatles. It’s called “Now and Then” and it’s the last song we will ever get from all four members of the band. It’s from a 1978 cassette tape demo John Lennon made in NYC and surprisingly, after he was killed, Yoko gave the tape to the remaining Beatles?? THANK YOU YOKO! Back in 1994 the remaining members tried to work on the song, but the technology to separate John’s voice from the piano was not good enough at the time, so the song was never completed. But now in 2023 with the use of artificial intelligence, we get one final masterpiece. Paul and Ringo finished it this year and damn is it good.
“Cobra”, Meg Thee Stallion. The Houston hottie, Meg just gave us her first new song from her own label. She left her previous label in the summer because they wouldn’t let her drop music without their permission and ya know, the same other reason all artist leave their labels, “creative differences”. Meg has been teasing new music for awhile and after the countless bangers she’s dropped since her debut, I think “Cobra” will be a hit instantly.
“Bleed”,The Kid LAROI. “Bleed” is the lead single from The Kid LAROI’s new album set to come out next Friday, November 10th. The album is called “THE FIRST TIME” and is rumered to have some great features on this! He’s previously worked with Machine Gun Kelly and Justine Bieber and had success, so I see this album working out for him.
