MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Officials with the University of Wisconsin system have announced Dr. Thomas Gibson as the new Chancellor for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“Dr. Gibson is a fantastic fit for UW-Stevens Point,” said Interim UW System President Tommy Thompson. “I am confident his background in student affairs coupled with his high-energy engagement with everyone he connects with will build an even better university for the entire region and our great state.”
Gibson will begin his duties at UWSP, which also operates campuses in Wausau and Marshfield, on January 11th, 2021. He will be the 15th Chancellor in the history of the school.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as the 15th chancellor at UW-Stevens Point,” said Dr. Gibson. “UW-Stevens Point has a rich history and culture, and dedicated students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders that I am looking forward to joining.”
Gibson comes with the full recommendation of the UWSP Chancellor search committee. Interim President Thompson agreed with the choice.
He currently serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Vice Provost at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He’s also served at Ball State University in Muncie, IN and York College in New York City.
Gibson will earn $247,500 as chancellor.
