WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Phase I of the Oak Island Skatepark has been complete, and the City of Wausau will host a grand opening ceremony on Sunday, August 10.
The ceremony will be go from 11am to 2pm at Oak Island Park. The Wausau/Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will be joined by Wausau Mayor Doug Diny for a ribbon cutting to officially open park.
The newly constructed features now replace the previous park that stood for over 20 years.
“From what I gather from emails I am getting, and comments we see on Facebook, our community is very excited for this to open,” said Jamie Polley, Director of Wausau/Marathon County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. “It has been three, four years in the making to get to this point.”
In addition to the grand opening of Phase I on Sunday, an update will be provided on Phase II, which includes the fixing and refurbishing of old ramps and skate lights. Once those are taken care of, they will be added back to the new park.
