MERRILL, WI (WSAU) – At least 15 employees have lost their jobs at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
Some of the workers were offered severance packages, as ownership of the facility transferred from Lincoln County to The Ensign Group, a private company last week. Other Lincoln County employees who worked maintenance positions were also cut.
Many of the cuts are in the areas of food service and hospitality. Some former workers say their duties will be transferred to CNAs.
A written statement from The Ensign Group says: “We are currently assessing the resources available to assist us in achieving our goal of providing quality healthcare and rehabilitation to those requiring such services.”
The sale of the money-losing nursing home had been a long-running debate in Lincoln County. Some residents favored a referendum to fund the facility, which was blocked by the county board last year.
