STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A large police presence near Downtown Stevens Point was connected to a mental health situation.
Police were called to a home in the 2200 block of Clark Street at about 11:30 AM for a report of a person experiencing a “mental health crisis,” according to a release from the PD. Officers from UWSP Police, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, and Stevens Point Fire Department also responded.
Officers were able to communicate with the person and brought them into protective custody without injury. Additionally, no officers were injured during the response.
Portions of nearby streets were blocked off at times during the response. Officers thanked the residents for their patience during the incident.
