MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers is giving his opinion on where he feels the state Democratic Party stands, as Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong continues to rise in the polls.
In a newly released interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Gov. Evers, who has endorsed Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley for governor, stated that “It’s always been people before party, I want, more than Democrats to win in November, it’s to leave Wisconsin in goods hands when someone else takes over. Wisconsin comes first, always.”
When he was asked if he believed Hong could win in November, Evers stated, “probably not,” and “Obviously she’s an extraordinarily talented person, but at the end of the day, it was about issues.”
Hong has continued to embrace the far-left wing of the Democratic Party in recent weeks as she appeared at a Milwaukee campaign event with controversial streamer Hasan Piker and Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar this past weekend causing Republican candidate Tom Tiffany to say in a statement, “Francesca Hong choosing to campaign with individuals who said America ‘deserved 9/11,’ called communism the ‘honorable end goal,’ and believe capitalists should be killed is certainly a choice.”
According to the latest Ipsos poll, 38% of registered Democrats prefer Democratic Socialist candidates over traditional Democrats, especially among college-educated voters, with DSA candidates like Hong having a 9-point overall advantage.
With Sara Rodriguez and Mandela Barnes out of the race, last week’s Marquette Law School poll found that Hong currently holds a 33-point advantage over David Crowley and a 40-point advantage over Joel Brennan and Kelda Roys.
