WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A national shortage of the fluoride drinking water additive means Wausau water customers will be getting less of it in their tap water for the foreseeable future.
According to a press release, the shortage has been triggered by supply constraints from major domestic manufacturers. Milwaukee’s water system recently announced a similar move.
“We will do what we can to find more and run at this level as long as we can. Hopefully this shortage ends soon, and we can get back to normal,” says Water Operations Superintendent Scott Boers.
Monday’s release adds that the city is “actively pursuing” other supply options.
Officials say the decrease is meant to “stretch the available supply” until the supply chain is restored.
