STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Plover woman will be sentenced for delivering the drugs that contributed to the overdose death of a 56-year-old Stevens Point man.
Evelyn Tharp entered a no contest plea Tuesday to a count of first-degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs. A Portage County judge then found her guilty of the charge, which does carry a repeater modifier.
Tharp is accused of supplying drugs for Stephen O’Donnell who died in September of 2019 of a drug overdose. Court records show O’Donnell’s girlfriend found him dead in his home with a needle in his hand. Investigators also found numerous text messages with Tharp on his phone which suggested she would be supplying him with heroin, meth, and cocaine.
When interviewed by Police Tharp denied supplying the drugs and said she had lost the phone connected with the number that O’Donnell was interacting with. But authorities found a drug kit in her apartment that included paraphernalia that matched the ones found with O’Donnell at the time of his death.
Tharp remains jailed and will be sentenced for the charges on February 9th, 2021.
