The Best Sports Movie Of All-Time Is…….

One of my favorite websites is The Athletic and since they have little sports to write about these days the staff attempted to determine the best sports movies of all-time. Here is the list, let the arguing begin.

I have questions. Like, is The Big Lebowski a sports movie? Rounders? The Hustler? Finding Bobby Fischer? Excellent movies all…but sports movies?

Movies too low in my opinion include The Natural, Chariots Of Fire and Secretariat. You can argue all day about what should be higher or lower but there certainly are some great films here…even if you don't like sports. How many have you seen. Incredibly, I have only seen 40 of these (I'm not a big movie guy). I have some work to do. My top 10 would be heavy on baseball movies of course and would be 1. Miracle, 2. The Natural, 3. Chariots of Fire, 4. The Bad News Bears (Original), 5 Bull Durham, 6 Hoosiers, 7 Moneyball, 8 Field Of Dreams. 9 Caddyshack 10 Rush…although I could change this randomly at any time and include Eight Men Out, Bingo Long, Rocky 3, Major League, When We Were Kings, Slap Shot or Hoop Dreams.

If you havent seen “When We Were Kings” or “Hoop Dreams” put them on your list. When We Were Kings tells the story and backstory of the Ali-Foreman fight in Zaire. Hoop Dreams is a documentary on some inner city Chicago kids and their basketball journey (good and bad)

What's the highest ranked movie I haven't seen? It's actually Raging Bull. I've never been able to sit through it. Planning on watching it during this “social distancing ” time.

I'm not watching OJ:Made in America. I lived through the actual story at the time. I have no interest in re-living any of that.
