Loyal and intelligent, a German Shepherd is an amazing canine. Police, rescue, and military rely on their strong-willed and fearless nature. A local dog, a German shepherd-Labrador mix named Mary, lost her life in the most sickening way. Her owner's girlfriend (Sean D. Janas-female) is charged with felony mistreatment of animals, giving poison to an animal and obstructing an officer. She faces more than five years in prison and $30,000 in fines if convicted on all charges.
The alleged killer also kept a "play-by-play" journal of the torture (doses of Drano and bleach) with humor and horrific detail. Could she end up with a "slap on the wrist" and walk away with a shorter sentence?
We need to ensure that this doesn't happen. If you are as sickened and outraged as I am, you will want to see justice prevail. Assuming the allegations are true as reported, this person deserves the full repercussions and punishment available under the law.
Does this story make you physically ill? You CAN make your voice known. HOWEVER, I ASK AND DEMAND THAT YOU DO SO CALMLY AND WITH KINDNESS TO THE JUDGE AND DISTRICT ATTORNEY. THREATS AND THE LIKE ARE NOT USEFUL HERE. Can you do that? I had to take several deep breaths and relax before sending mine.
Send your thoughtful letter to the Court and the District Attorney's office and let them know that this is unacceptable...

Again, do not threaten...be rational but firm and let them know a slap on the wrist will not stand as acceptable punishment.

Our laws in Wisconsin need to be tougher for animal abuse. It won't help Mary but we need to come down harder on those that harm animals. Research shows animal abuse often leads to further violent criminal activity.
"There is legitimate evidence that the individuals involved in violent acts against animals present a danger to the public that must be addressed. Intentional animal abuse is often seen in association with other serious crimes including drug offenses, gang activity, weapons violations, sexual assault and domestic violence—and can be one of the most visible parts of an entire history of aggressive or antisocial behavior."
