NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU) — It’s the final day of the Jesus Contreras Perez murder trial in Clark County.
He’s the 42-year-old man accused of killing Cassandra Ayon back in the fall of 2020 and hiding her body. Proceedings began on Monday and were scheduled to run through today.
It’s unclear at this time if the case is in the hands of the jury yet, according to online court records.
Contreras Perez faces counts of first-degree intentional homicide, stalking, and hiding a corpse in the case. The homicide charge alone carries a mandatory life sentence.
The case was originally scheduled to go to trial early next year, but Contreras Perez requested a speedy trial which moved up proceedings.
Contreras Perez was said to have been in an abusive relationship with Ayon and according to her friends, she felt threatened by him. Her body still hasn’t been recovered, though officials say there has been no cell phone or bank activity tied to her since she went missing and there is no evidence that she left the United States.
