As you know, I recently had a BBL… and no, not that BBL. I’m talking Broadband Light Therapy at Eleve! It’s a skincare treatment that uses light to target dark spots—both on the surface and deeper within the skin—to help bring back that youthful, fresh glow. As we get older, age spots and sun damage start popping up like uninvited guests, and BBL is amazing for treating those (plus fine lines!).
But listen, you really need to be careful saying “I got a BBL” out loud in public. People immediately think Brazilian Butt Lift, thanks to celebrities and their, um… enhancements.
Case in point: My oldest daughter Mia is a cheerleader, and on Tuesday she had to cheer for three games in a row. Between games, we were sitting on the bleachers when her coach walked over, complaining that her back hurt.
Mia said, “You’re not even 40 yet.”
Her coach sighed, “No, but I feel like it.”
Mia then added, “Well my mom is like 42.”
I thanked her for the sort of compliment, and she followed up with, “Well… how old are you? Like 44?”
“45,” I answered.
Her coach responded, “Wow, you look really good.”
And then—because the universe loves chaos—Mia loudly announced, “It’s because she had a BBL.”
Every cheerleader (and probably half the gym) snapped their heads toward me. I nearly died on the spot. I blurted out, “BROADBAND LIGHT THERAPY! It’s a skincare thing!”
I’m still recovering emotionally.
Thankfully, I’ve had some far less embarrassing compliments lately. I donate platelets pretty regularly, and at my appointment the day after Thanksgiving, the woman checking me in stopped mid-sentence and said, “Wait, you’re 45? You look way younger than that.”
Not gonna lie—that felt amazing.
I used to feel like I needed foundation every single day. Now I just dab a little concealer under my eyes, swipe on mascara, fill in my brows, and head out the door. Light, easy, confident.
