WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was named one of the SWAT Teams of the Year by the Association of SWAT Professionals – Wisconsin, marking the second consecutive year the team has received the honor.
The award recognizes a team’s perseverance, professional tactics, teamwork, communication and coordination during a tactical event.
The Marathon County team, along with tactical response units from Lincoln County, Oneida County and Langlade County, assisted in a hostage rescue involving two children at a home in Antigo in June 2023. Members of the teams utilized their tactical expertise and demonstrated an exceptional level of collaboration and coordination between agencies.
Their combined efforts ensured the safe extrication of the children and the safe arrest of the suspect.
