MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers have been one of baseball’s hottest teams over the previous two weeks, and much of their success can be attributed to their ace’s dominance against opposing batters.
Jacob Misiorowski has put up historic numbers during the first month of the season, going 4-2 with a 1.89 ERA (third in the NL) and leading Major League Baseball with 88 strikeouts. Since the beginning of May, Misiorowski has had a perfect ERA of 0.00 with 25 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched, putting him one start shy of tying Ted Higuera’s 32-inning team record scoreless streak set in 1987.
Misiorowski’s pitch command has also improved since his debut with the Brewers last season, dropping from a 11.4% walk rate to 8.4% this season. He is also averaging 14.1 strikeouts per nine innings, having struck out eight or more in each of his last five starts, tying Ben Sheets’ record.
To put Misiorowski’s numbers in context, former Brewers ace Corbin Burnes won the NL Cy Young Award in 2021 with an 11-5 record, 234 strikeouts, and an NL-best 2.43 ERA. If Misiorowski maintains his current pace, he’ll finish 13-6 with 282 strikeouts, easily surpassing Burnes’ total.
Misiorowski will next pitch at Milwaukee on May 25th against the St. Louis Cardinals.
